Endowment
--- A Bright Future
In the
1980's a group of people comprised of supporters and parents band together to form a board
to establish and build an Endowment Fund with a goal of assuring a stable financial future
for the school. Interest earned from the Endowment filters back into the school's
operating budget. Today, the Endowment Fund has grown to over $1 million.
Methods of Giving
Many different, exciting and creative forms of gift giving to the
Endowment Fund are available, all of which are tax deductible:
Stocks, Bonds, Mutual Funds
Securities are excellent ways to give, particularly, if they
have appreciated in value. the full market value of the stock is tax deductible, not
just the original investment costs. Thus, you can avoid capital gains taxes.
Check with a broker about how to make this type of gift.
 | Cash
One of the most standard and familiar ways to
give. |
 | Property
Both real estate and personal property
qualify as charitable gifts that would benefit Catholic Education through the Endowment
Fund. Consider real estate such as residences, farmland, and buildings as well as
antiques, jewelry, artwork/coin collections or other collectibles. |
 | Business Gifts
Businesses can make gifts and receive tax
deductions as well. Businesses can give gifts of inventory, equipment, materials and
service as well as cash. If you own your own business, giving through your business
is another way to benefit Catholic education and positively impact your taxes. |
 | Life Insurance
Cash value in current or paid up life
insurance policies can benefit Catholic education. Of course, naming SHJSHS as a
beneficiary of life insurance proceeds can be wonderful means of making a future major
gift. You may even designate policy dividends as gifts. |
 | Matching Gifts
If you are an employee or a participating
retiree of a company or corporation with a "matching gifts program," a gift to
the Endowment Fund may qualify to be matched by your company. Many company matching
gifts programs now include gifts to secondary schools. Check with your employer! |
